I’m a Beginner. What Do I Need?
If you are a beginner, you may be unsure what surfing equipment to get. It is not necessary to purchase a surfboard right away since there are several places to rent them along the beach. We recommend starting with a longboard, which are anywhere from 8 to 12 feet long. These boards are easier to stand up on and maintain your balance.
You will want to purchase surfboard wax. This product does wonders in improving foot grip on the board. We also suggest using a leash, especially in the beginning. The leash is attached to both your ankle and the board so if you do wipe out, you won’t lose the board.
Using a wetsuit is also a good idea because it protects your body against the freezing ocean temperatures.
