About the Owners:

We’re a local Malibu family who split time between Washington D.C. and California. Wayne is a business owner and adjunct professor at the nearby Pepperdine University, and Jill is a successful lawyer and celebrity legal news influencer. We have 3 boys, 2 of which attend USC, and the 3rd is a senior at Malibu High School.

We’re a family of surfers and part of the reason we love this area so much is because it is within 10 minutes of the best 3 surf spots in Malibu. Below we’ve detailed just a few of our favorite spots including pictures and descriptions of each break! Feel free to contact us for advice on where to surf or rent boards – even if you don’t stay at our beautiful cottage, we’re happy to point your group to the best spots (some days depend on the direction, wind, etc.) or tell you where to rent boards and get lessons.

Best Surf Spots: Here are just a few of our favorite local spots.

Zeros – 6 minute drive

Zeros, also known as Nicholas Canyon, is one the only pure lefts in Malibu. It usually only breaks at chest high + and is one of the faster waves in Malibu. Primarily a long left with a few quick rights coming through.

Leo Carillo – 7 minute drive

Leo is one of those famous Malibu waves. A long, slow right that breaks off an incredible rock formation. A lot those classic Malibu longboard photos are taken here.

County Line – 9 minute drive

County Line sits on the border of Malibu and Ventura. It’s breaks lefts and right up and down the entire beach. As we say, ‘when in doubt, just go to county!’

Zuma Beach – 4 minute drive

Zuma is a great beach break that always has a bump in the water. Awesome for learning to surf!

These are just a few of our favorite local spots, but there’s tons of secret spots we can show you! There are plenty of board rental places in the area and we are happy to coordinate surf and SUP rentals.

Best Food: From little local burrito places to awesome sushi restaurants, Malibu has some pretty killer food options within a 15 minute drive from the cottage!

Breakfast: Lily’s is an 8 minute drive away and has awesome breakfast burritos!

Grocery Stores: Vintage Grocer’s is an organic, Whole Foods type store with everything you need from eggs and milk to killer sandwiches. 4 minute drive from the cottage.

American: For an American bite, check out nearby Christie’s! Only a 4 minute drive away.

Sushi: Bui Sushi is in the Malibu Country Mart and has really delicious sushi at normal prices! Malibu Country Mart is only 15 minutes away and is full of other restaurants and shops.

Italian: For an Italian bite, Gravinas is the place to go.
